Travelling, but for Science

As part of my Bachelors in Zoology, I had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica for a 3 week field trip, moving around the country and learning about its varied ecosystems and fascinating history. Of course, I took my camera along with me, and took some photos that I am really happy with.

Capuchin monkeys are extremely intelligent and social animals, moving around in family troops and vocalising often. Here, we watched a troop jumping around the palm trees and trying to get into the coconuts, fascinated by the way they use their hands so similarly to us.

They made it into the coconut.

Two Toucans can can can.

A Volcano Hummingbird perched proudly on a branch. I found this fellow as we stopped for lunch on the way up a mountain.

A sleepy Sloth with a sleepy Sloth baby.

Pelicans! Birds that are rather difficult not to love.

The classic hummingbird shot. I forgot my tripod before we visited the hummingbird café, but I persisted and while everyone else was enjoying tea and cakes surrounded by beautiful rainforest sounds, I spent the half hour patiently (or desperately) trying to capture one of these beautiful creatures in flight without blurry eyes. I reckon it was worth it.

A Black Hawk perched on a seaside rock. The rock appears sharp. It is just as sharp in appearance as it is against the bare foot of a human.

Do you see it? (Common Potoo).

A Blue Crowned Motmot. Lovely creatures.

One of my favourite photos I've ever taken.
